Do you dream of a place where nature presents its consummate beauty? Where turquoise lakes meet lush forests and waterfalls plunge into crystal clear waters? Where the chirping of birds and the splashing of water are the only sounds that break the silence? Then the Plitvice Lakes in Croatia are just right for your family!
This natural paradise, consisting of 16 terraced lakes connected by numerous waterfalls, offers an unforgettable sight. Plitvice Lakes have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and represent the amazing diversity and beauty of Croatian nature. They are an ideal destination for families who are looking for adventure and at the same time want to experience nature in its most untouched form.
If you are planning your visit to Plitvice Lakes, we strongly recommend purchasing tickets online in advance. Tickets for adults cost 40 euros, while children between 7 and 18 years pay only 15 euros. This price includes access to the trails, boat rides on the lakes and a ride on the scenic train that will give you a spectacular view of the park. You can buy tickets on the official website at np-plitvicka-jezera.hr.
But be careful: Plitvice Lakes National Park limits the number of visitors per hour to protect nature and avoid overcrowding. Therefore, it is advisable to book your tickets well in advance and plan your visit in advance.
To make the most of your visit, you can find various routes of different lengths on the park’s website – from short 3.5 km to challenging 12.5 km hikes. Decide on the route that best suits your family. We opted for PROGRAM H, a route of 8,900 m, which includes both a panoramic train and a boat ride. Our children, aged 4 and 6, mastered the challenge with flying colors and were thrilled by the many new impressions.
An important note for your planning: there is only one food station and restrooms in the park. So don’t forget to pack enough snacks and drinks. And of course, it goes without saying that you take your trash back with you, helping to preserve the breathtaking beauty of this place.
Before you set off on your adventure, take a look at the park’s rules of conduct, which are listed on the website at np-plitvicka-jezera.hr. They are simple rules, but of great importance for the preservation of this unique natural heritage.
